These people defy modern technology and still cherish old trades by successfully placing their products in shop windows of small crafts. Their shops are true tourist hotspots so we’ve singled out five crafts located in downtown Zagreb that you don’t want to miss.

Hatmaker’s shop Cahun

This hatmaker’s shop boasts more than 80 years of tradition and is located in the busy Zagreb street at the address Pod zidom 8. There’s almost no one in Zagreb who isn’t familiar with their handmade products. Given that they form an indispensible part of Zagreb’s cultural heritage, they do their very best to maintain production quality when it comes to all kinds of head coverings. Josipa Cahun took over the business from her parents. Recently she launched a summer hat collection you can check out at Zagreb Crafts.

Peroklinika

If you take a short detour from Zagreb’s main square, you’ll bump into a unique temple of tradition, namely, Peroklinika. This fountain pen repair craft is the only one of its kind in Europe. The owner, Vlasta Keranović, uses fountain pens as means to familiarise you with Zagreb’s rich heritage. You can purchase a Croatian souvenir at Peroklinika. This souvenir refers to the replica of Slavoljub Penkala’s first mechanical pencil that was designed back when Zagreb hosted the Universiade. The fact that Zagreb used to have as much as 24 fountain pen repair crafts and that Peroklinika is unique in Europe are good enough reasons to include this small must-see shop in your list of places to go.

Jewellery Krznarić

Zagreb’s street named Prolaz sestara Baković is a Mecca for small traditional crafts. This small street located right next to Cvjetni trg houses a jewellery shop owned by Krunoslav Krznarić that goes back to 1947. Krunoslav Krznarić makes authentic replicas of old Croatian jewellery bringing the art of making silver jewellery to perfection. Watchmaker Ivan Puzak

Ivan Puzak’s watchmaking shop is located just a stone’s throw away from Jewellery Krznarić. This profession has almost faded into oblivion, but thanks to the effort of the few remaining watchmakers it’s still alive in Zagreb. A team made up of four watchmaking masters works in the shop these days and his daughter Ivana Puzan is one of them. She will take over the family business and make sure that their small shop stays an indispensible part of Zagreb’s craft scene.

Nataša Trinajstić

Zagreb’s Dalmatinska Street is the place where you’ll find a true oasis of unique women’s shoes. Craft Zvonimir has built quite a reputation in Zagreb and they’re famous for their one-of-a-kind women’s footwear ranging from classic to modern shoes. Nataša Trinajstić has been running this shoemaking shop by making classic footwear with a distinct design. They’ve won numerous awards and a few years back they were listed in the Louis Vuitton City Guide due to which you don’t want to miss out on craft Zvonimir. Celebrities love them, but Nataša Trinajstić points out that foreign guests make up an ever-increasing share of their buyers.
